SB Beauty

We are honored to work alongside Sharon Becker of SB Beauty, the uber-chic makeup ingenue who created the innovative hair and makeup look for our Bushwick beauties last year. This styled bridal shower shoot was featured by 100 Layer Cake. Sharon created an individualized vision for each girl complimenting perfectly the schoolhouse nerdy chic aesthetic crafted by stylist, Molly Hartman of Glitter and Rye. Sharon explains, "I knew that we had to create a modern vintage look, embracing the bright lip of the past but in the new, vibrant, almost neon colors. Hair had to have shape, but softer and more human. Just like with a wedding party, all of our models sported different looks for the shoot, and I had fun with each one."

Sharon told us about how she began her career and what moves her: "I ran into my career by accident, as often happens in NYC and creative fields. I found that I get paid for my love of product and color, and ability to translate the needs of a creative director or bride into reality. It's not just makeup, though - I create relationships because I'm friendly and fun, and I want everyone I work with to feel comfortable and enjoy the experience. The uninitiated may think that my work pops out of my imagination, and it can, but only after preparation. I discuss a photo shoot storyboard and timeline, examining a photographer or stylists' inspiration, as well as a bride's inspiration - it's always a personal vision. My own inspiration comes from everything around me, like a Raphaelite cheek, cherry blossoms, Mick Jagger's sneer, and especially the people in NYC."

Sharon wanted to give our brides some words of advice, "It's so important to hire a professional makeup artist for your photo shoot or wedding. First, it's a matter of perspective, and almost no one has perspective on how they really look. Cameras shoot very honest portraits, so you want to look rested, fresh, and showcase your best features. For the same reason, you want a professional photographer who understands lighting, and can capture moments that the rest of us don't see. When you hire a professional, you know the job will be done right, and you can relax and enjoy the experience!"

We always enjoy working with this makeup maverick, and are excited for our New York area brides to experience her greatness.

Martha Stewart Weddings Bridal Market Party

We were thrilled to photograph the lovely Martha Stewart Weddings Bridal Market Party again this year. It's always so much fun to see what the creme de la creme wedding artists are up to and this event continues to draw some of the most energetic people in the industry. This year's party palette included vibrant shades of reds, oranges and yellows situated amongst Martha's penthouse office hive in NYC's West Village.  As you might imagine, everything is "just so" and cared for with her hallmark attention to detail. MS Weddings', Darcy Miller, and her fantastic team really know how to throw a party, and continue to share their insights into the latest wedding trends.

Some of our favorite people were in attendance:  Matthew Robbins is a pure delight and full of creative ideas which are shared in his new book, Inspired Weddings.  Whenever we work together, we're met with such sincerity and smiles.  Amy Degiulio from Sugar Flower Cake Shop demonstrated her cakemaking artistry in the kitchen where guests could learn some of the master's secrets and tour some of MSW's studios and offices.  The backrooms are filled with studios and prop shops (some of which we're not allowed to share!) including drawers and drawers of serving spoons of all shapes, sizes, and color - they're careful to seldom, if never, repeat themselves.  Claudia and the girls from the Wedding Library are always a blast and helped to organize the entire event. Other A- List guests included Monique Lhuillier, Colin Cowie , Randy FenoliFilms by Francesco, and some of our most respected colleagues. The incomparable Elan Artists dished up some amazing entertainment (several bands and DJ's) which inspired many to hit the dance floor - including Martha herself, which we are unfortunately also unable to show (you can see a couple here however)!

Marc and Erica

I am very excited to feature this lovely waterfront wedding with Marc and Erica. Their ceremony and reception were held at the 79th St. Boat Basin in New York City and there is only one way to describe the beautiful weather we had, perfect. We started at their Upper West Side apartment with the first look, then headed out on foot to the boat basin, a short walk away.  As we mosied down the waterfront, we stopped at various locations for portraits, eventually making our way to the venue.  Erica wore a Monique Lhuillier gown while Marc wore a suit composed of various pieces from Valentino. The waterfront ceremony was timed perfectly with the setting sun.  Marc is owner of OnTheMarc Events, a fabulous caterer specializing in sophisticated bites.  He pulled out all of the stops for his wedding with an impressive line up of hors d'oeuvres and family style plates. Take a look at the extended gallery for additional wedding coverage and pictures of Marc's food.
